Highland Scrambles South, the long awaited 3rd guide in the SMC’s (Scottish Mountaineering Club) scrambles series has now been released.
According to the SMC the guide describes 215 routes in The Cairngorms, Lochnagar, Ben Nevis & The Mamores, Glen Coe & Glen Etive, Knoydart, Ardgour & Ardnamurchan, Creag Meagaidh & Ben Alder, Southern Highlands, Southern Uplands and on the islands of Mull, Rum and Arran. It contains routes ranging from short outcrop routes to lengthy undertakings on the ridges of Ben Nevis.
Having used the Highland Scrambles North and Skye Scrambles books from the same range I’m keen to get hold of a copy soon and will post a review once I do. These guides are indispensable for those seeking the harder and less frequented routes on Scotland’s mountains without getting too involved in technical climbing. From experience of the first 2 they are thoroughly recommended.
