Morar to Loch Arkaig mountains

This is a large area of hills and mountains from near the coast at Arisaig and Morar all the way east to the Great Glen near Fort William and Gairlochy – bounded in the south by Loch Eil, Glenfinnan and the A830 road to Arisaig, and in the north by Loch Arkaig, Glen Dessarry and Loch Nevis. The area is approximately 50 kilometres from west to east. It contains 3 Munros, 7 Corbetts and 7 Grahams and numerous subsidiary tops and smaller hills. Glenfinnan or Fort William are probably the best bases for exploring the area, you can search for accommodation here.

There are next to no roads in these mountains – none pass right through the area in any direction. The terrain is complex, rough, wild and beautiful, characteristic of the highly deformed metamorphic rocks that dominate across the wider western mainland Highlands. The Cape Wrath Trail does traverse these mountains between Glenfinnan in the south and Strathan at the west end of Loch Arkaig in the north. There are also 5 Mountain Bothy Association maintained bothies in the area that may be of use.
