Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe

Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe is a Corbett at the west end of the 9 kilometre long Druim Chosaidh ridge – a superb ridgeline rising high above the west end of Loch Cuaich (Quoich) on the eastern edge of Knoydart. The Druim Chosaidh ridge has top after top; Meall an Spardain in the east, Sgurr Airigh na Beinne in the centre, and then the far east and east tops of Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe before the highest summit of Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe itself.

The ridge is exceptionally rough and rugged comprising of highly deformed metamorphic rocks. It is full of character and highly recommended. Beware the crossing of the Abhainn Chosaidh river below the east end of the ridge. It was an inviting trickle when I visited in dry weather, but can be dangerous and impassable in spate.

The west north west ridge of Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe fom Barrisdale is probably the easiest route to the summit and looks like a pleasant straight forward line. The southern slopes of Sgurr a’ Choire-bheithe above the Mam Unndalain pass between Barrisdale and Loch Cuaich are steep and craggy but negotiable with care.
