Arkle from the southern end of Loch Stack late on a summer evening. Arkle’s Cambrian quartzite is picked out nicely by the sun as are the house and woods at Airdachuillinn on the right. This location is about 10 km south along the A838 road from Laxford Bridge and the route of the North Coast 500. Half a kilometre south of the end of the loch a private road leads past Airdachuillinn and on towards the estate buildings at the wonderfully named Lone. At Lone the road ends and paths diverge for Bealach Horn, Foinaven and Arkle to the north and Bealach na Feithe to the south. The two paths rejoin some miles to the east at Gobernuisgach in Strath More south of Ben Hope which can provide a long, wild circuit for the hardy (including mountain bikers).
