Conival and Ben More Assynt are the two Munros of Assynt and dominate the north east of the area with their height and bulk. They are seen here in the centre of the photo with the ridge of Beinn an Fhurain to the left and Breabag closer to the right. Conival and Ben More Assynt aren’t as shapely as the mainly Torridonian sandstone hills of Quinag and Suilven, consisting mainly of Lewisian gneiss and quartzite that weathers differently from the sandstone. They are however remote hills of great character and seem to generate their own micro-climate, often holding cloud and snow when conditions are different on the surrounding hills.
