Bucholly Castle is a fascinating ruin set in a stunning, remote location on the east coast of Caithness south of John o' Groats. It is perched above the North Sea on a rocky peninsula joined to the mainland by a narrow neck of land with steep drops to the geos on either side.
Dun Dornaigil (or Dun Dornadilla) is an excellent example of an iron age broch and lies in beautiful, remote Strath More just south of the most northerly Munro Ben Hope. Strath More was also the birth place of the 18th century bard Rob Donn.
Ard Neackie is a small scenic peninsula on the east side of Loch Eriboll next to the North Coast 500 route, joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus with an interesting history of lime quarrying, lime kilns and as home to the pier for the former Heilam Ferry across Loch Eriboll to Portnancon.
