Looking south east from the summit of Arkle at the back end of a squally snow shower departing to the south east. Plenty of spindrift was whipping across the summit ridges of Arkle and a sizeable plume of spindrift can be seen rising from Meallan a’ Chuail on the right of the photo, a 750 m top. This is probably the most snow I’ve experienced on the westerly Sutherland hills and this day I’d skied up the south east top of Arkle and left equipment at the head of Coir Uairidh whilst I ascended to the main summit. On returning to the head of the coire I realised I hadn’t left my ski gear securely enough and had to search for it where it had blown around the upper coire. Once retrieved, Coir Uairidh and the lower gully gave a lovely ski to about 400 m.
