Achmelvich is among the most beautiful coastal spots in the north west or, for that matter, the whole UK. There are two stunning pale sand beaches, the southerly is larger and easy to access from the car park and campsite. The northerly beach is tucked away over a headland and requires a bit more effort to reach with some rocky ground to negotiate. It is hemmed in by some lovely Lewisian gneiss crags and slabs which add to the secluded cove atmosphere. Achmelvich is just off the main North Coast 500 route. A couple of miles north of Lochinver along the B869 take the signposted turn along the tiny undulating road to Achmelvich (tricky for larger vehicles) where there is parking, a campsite, youth hostel and some static caravans.
